The Answers

Packing for the Future with a Nod to the Past

The album The Answers was released on November 27th, Thanksgiving Day. According to the artist, the date was chosen as a symbol of gratitude to his family and fans.

On this record, Phil Headway brings new nuances to traditional American music, blending Celtic-Irish influences with political, provocative, and inspiring lyrics. Some tracks carry current references, while others lean into nostalgia and storytelling. It’s an ideal album for long car trips, bars and pubs, or moments with family.

The track sequence was carefully selected and moves between folk, rock, country, and R&B. The opener, “Cannies of Truth,” begins with bold lyrics and an assertive guitar that sounds like a cry for free speech. Next comes the title track, “The Answers,” with reflective lyrics about the void we try to fill to avoid the answers we don’t want to hear.

The album continues with “Goo Goo Girl,” a standout that has already drawn strong praise from critics for its composition, mixing, and mastering. Then comes “An Envious Tree,” a folk song with Celtic influences and a rock-opera feel. It tells the story of a tree that grew downward in search of light, overshadowed by taller trees that blocked its growth — a profound message offering a broad perspective on the nuances of human relationships.

The same mood carries into “When I Try,” which delivers provocative lyrics over a smooth melody, letting the message land in a light, playful way.

“Here on the Other Side” is the message of a soldier burned by flames in a battle he never wanted to fight. The metaphor extends to artists who sell out for fame at any cost and end up burned, losing their organic sound and forgetting their real purpose.

The Answers is a complete album, perhaps the most innovative of Phil’s career. The cover says it all: the artist is packing his bags. His wife is closing the door to the past. Phil looks ahead without hesitation and carries all his baggage with him.

What’s inside those bags? Maybe the answers.
