Nerthus
A Nordic Epic with Captain Mockery at the Helm
The idea for the album Nerthus came from an epic medieval fantasy that explores political themes strikingly similar to our current times. The book is co-authored by Phil and his wife Tutti Headway, and it hasn’t been published yet.
The lyrics are impactful. Some defend the idea of finding your purpose in life and nurturing your essence, while others tell engaging stories and inner journeys meant for self-reflection and interpretation.
In terms of genre, a Nordic atmosphere is present from the start. Headway uses his vocal versatility to interpret the songs with different timbres, almost as if voicing distinct characters — sometimes satirical, sometimes mysterious, and aggressive when necessary. His nickname, Captain Mockery, could easily headline Nerthus. The influences of 1970s and 1980s rock bands, portrayed in a caricatured way, are undeniable. It sounds like a call to adventure, a journey through a time tunnel with elements of AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Kiss, Billy Joel, and Pain of Salvation thrown into the pot and mixed until they reach the Headway consistency.
Released recently, Nerthus has already won over many fans, reaching more than 600,000 people on Instagram in recent days and earning tens of thousands of likes on its reels. It’s a bohemian album, ideal for bars and pubs, rock festivals, or even a game of pool with friends.
